Antique Chess Checkers Table Top Board with Marquetry & Drawer Ca. Outer 22 ½ x 19 x 6. Top section 19 x 19.Checkerboard surface 12 x 12. This solid wood chess or checkers board was originally the top of a table that was bout 31 tall: the legs have been removed at some time and replaced with 4 old checkers that serve very well as feet. Construction is very solid at all corners and joints: no loose parts. The original finish recently received some furniture polish to freshen: it has some nicks along edges and some loss of the diamond pattern on the outer edge.
One corner brace underneath has been replaced (last pic). Signs of actual age and use are present and give it the antique look. The side-shelves are solid and hold the playing pieces during a game. The drawer slides nicely and has the original brass knob. It will hold a set of chess men or checkers (not supplied). The checkerboard-patterned playing surface is made of two types of inlaid wood in 1 ½ squares, likely walnut and applewood, or something similar. I estimate it dates to circa 1920 in origin and was likely made in the USA or Canada.
